This rug was handwoven by Malika, Nadia, Hanan, and Zahra in Ait Yadine, a village in the Middle Atlas mountains. Malika, Nadia, Hanan, and Zahra spent 4 weeks on this hand-knot. Made from 100% live wool, which the women carded, spun and dyed themselves. The rich colors come from indigo stone, saffron, henna, and argan shells.
This piece is a living testament to the powerful history of this village. In Ait Yadine, the weaving tradition is nurtured by the woman passing the skills down from generation to generation.
The abstract design of this pieces feel modern, thought it represents thousands of years of artistic tradition.
